Staying in Your Home - Aging in Place
by Joni Seivert of Connections Unlimited LLC (directory at end of article)
Are you looking for a way to remain in your home? There is a term for this called aging in place. As a baby boomer myself, I see the future of developing new ways to solve old problems lying in our laps. The 50+ markets are on the lookout not only for their parents, but also for us.
The last survey by our local area agency on aging told us that if seniors are to remain in their homes, they would need a variety of affordable services available in order to support them. From in-home care and handyman services, to a variety of products to make the home as safe as possible, and financial products to help you pay for this approach. This is where long term care insurance and reverse mortgages really come in handy. We need to orchestrate this initially in order to have it work when we need it.
The existing options in retirement communities are very limited in the amount of space that has been allowed for a couple. Finding a large enough apartment for two and services is very costly. That is why you need someone who can help you put this plan into place. I can create a package of services and products that will help turn this dream into a reality. The initial assessment is done in your home with your loved ones present. It takes only 1 hour of your time initially and saves so much time and aggravation in the long run. The family or a care manager can do the on-going coordination. The care manager can be available for help with resources and problem solving as needed.
The key to success for this kind of effort is having the planning time to get everything in place. Dont wait for a crisis to occur. Come together with the intention to plan for your future as a family. This will involve everyone and affect everyone in many wonderful ways. Start a new family tradition. Let your children see you do this for your parents and they will be more likely to take a proactive role in helping you when you need it. Making educated decisions allows you to feel like you have done the right thing and takes away the worry and anxiety that accompany this phase of life planning. Look at your options. There are many types of services, depending on your circumstances and resources. I can guarantee you there is something out there for everyone. Whether you are trying to stay in your home and have very little money, or whether you have a lot is not the issue. Its what you put into place. We have an array of wonderful options awaiting you. Call our one stop shop and ask about the HOMETEAM. You need a connection that can help you create a circle of support for you.
